In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Kieran Smith, 22, of Highfield Avenue, Grimsby, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of “vile” and “vicious” sexual offences against a young girl. Smith appeared at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, Thursday 15 January 2026, where he was also handed an extended licence period of one year.

The “serious” offences occurred between 2022 and 2024 while Smith was living in Castleford, West Yorkshire. Following a trial at Leeds Crown Court, he was found guilty of the rape of a girl under 13, sexual assault by penetration, and causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity. The prosecution emphasised that Smith had “callously” ruined the victim’s childhood memories through his “predatory” behaviour.

The Victim’s Bravery and Impact
In a moving statement, the victim’s family emphasised their great pride in the “brave young girl” for coming forward to protect others. They reported that although they were relieved Smith would no longer be in a position to harm children, they remained concerned about his eventual release. The family urged others in similar situations to speak out, stating that no matter how well you think you know someone, they should never have “full trust.”

Detective Constable Sally Hayward of the Wakefield Child Safeguarding Unit emphasised that the offences were reported only seven months ago. She noted that despite the complexity of the case, the evidence gathered by West Yorkshire Police ensured Smith was “swiftly convicted” for his “awful” and “vile” crimes.

Sentence and Indefinite Monitoring
As a result of his conviction for child rape and sexual assault, Kieran Smith was sentenced to:

  • Nine years in prison with a one-year extended licence.
  • A Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which indefinitely bans him from having any unsupervised contact with a child under 18.
  • Indefinite registration on the Sex Offenders Register.

Smith is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Yorkshire Police and Humberside Police, ensuring his behaviour and activities in Grimsby, Castleford, and Wakefield are strictly monitored for the rest of his life. Any breach of his SHPO or registration requirements will result in his immediate arrest and return to custody.
