A man, Kevin Ashton, has been charged in line with an inquiry into a claimed sexual assault in a Basildon Shopping Centre yesterday.
Following accusations of a man caressing a woman’s bottom, police were called to the Eastgate Centre in Basildon at approximately 11 am on Thursday, August 15.
In less than forty-five minutes, police detained a man nearby.
Since then, 68-year-old Kevin Ashton from Great Oxcroft in Laindon, Essex, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault on a girl.
Kevin Ashton’s next appearance is on September 13 at Southend Magistrates’ Court but is likely to be delayed.
