In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Keith Gray, then 65, of Fen Road, Metheringham, Lincolnshire, was sentenced to eight years in prison at Lincoln Crown Court. Keith Gray was convicted of systematically and horrifically sexually abusing a young girl over a period of four years. The vile offending began when the victim was only seven years old. Judge Simon Hirst noted during sentencing that the custodial term would have been significantly longer had he not been restricted by the maximum sentencing guidelines in place at the time the depraved acts were committed.
The court heard that Keith Gray carried out a sickening campaign of abuse between September 1983 and December 1987. During this time, he subjected the vulnerable child to repeated violent breaches of her safety and trust. Gray eventually admitted to eight charges of indecent assault, finally taking responsibility for the horrendous damage he inflicted on the victim during her childhood in Metheringham, Lincolnshire. The prosecution highlighted the profound and lasting trauma caused by such systematic exploitation of a minor.
During the proceedings, it was detailed how the horrific nature of the historical abuse had impacted the victim’s life into adulthood. By pleading guilty to the serious charges, Keith Gray avoided a full trial, though the judge emphasised the seriousness of his predatory behaviour. The investigation by Lincolnshire Police ensured that, despite the decades that had passed since the vile crimes, Gray was finally held accountable for the horrendous suffering he caused to a defenceless child.
As a result of his convictions for these serious sexual offences, Keith Gray was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Lincolnshire Police, remaining under supervision for the duration of his life. Any breach of his registration requirements or any further predatory behaviour in the Metheringham area or elsewhere in the UK will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
