Back in 2019, Karim Rudge, the Gibraltar Paedophile, a local man who sexually assaulted a teenage boy after enticing him into his residence under the pretence of “chilling” for £20, was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Supreme Court yesterday.

Karim Rudge, 30, of Glacis Estate, was convicted of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape following a seven-day trial in July.

During the trial, the court learnt that Karim Rudge and the 15-year-old met in Glacis Estate and subsequently spoke via Facebook Messenger.

Karim Rudge offered the youngster £20 in return for visiting his apartment to “relax.”

In October of the previous year, the victim and his companion visited Rudge’s flat in Glacis Estate, where they were presented with narcotics and wine upon arrival.

Karim Rudge thereafter seized the youngster and transported him to his bedroom, where he perpetrated oral rape and tried anal rape; however, he was unsuccessful due to the victim crossing his legs.

The youngster testified that Rudge was intoxicated and stated that Karim Rudge had grown “bored” and expelled him from the residence.

Karim Rudge, however, refuted any allegations of misconduct and asserted that the adolescent had reached out to him online, requesting the purchase of tablets.

The defence contended that the claims were fabricated as retribution against Karim Rudge for allegedly defrauding him of £20.

At the sentence hearing, Puisne Judge Karen Ramagge Prescott emphasised the damage inflicted on the victim, whose mother stated he had subsequently become a “recluse” and only ventured outside for school.

The victim provided a statement indicating difficulties with sleep and has pursued counselling.

Mrs Justice Ramagge Prescott stated that while the psychological injury has not been “severe,” it has nonetheless affected his life.

“The victim’s age renders him especially vulnerable in this case,” stated Mrs Justice Ramagge Prescott.

“He is a 15-year-old adolescent, which, in my opinion, renders him susceptible.”

“I acknowledge that he was both mature and streetwise…” However, his age renders him more susceptible in the presence of a 29-year-old man.

Mrs Justice Ramagge Prescott informed the court that she was imposing a sentence based on the rape conviction, with the attempted rape considered as an aggravating circumstance.

Mrs Justice Ramagge Prescott emphasised Rudge’s prior convictions, which encompassed sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 16, as an exacerbating element.

Furthermore, he was under the effect of drink and potentially narcotics, which may have rendered him “unsteady”.

She adjudicated Karim Rudge to an eight-year incarceration.

A report from the probation officers revealed that Karim Rudge continues to exhibit no remorse; nevertheless, during his custody since last October, he has been collaborating with a counsellor and preparing for his GCSE examinations.

Crown prosecutor Cecile Gomez stated that this case “necessitated” a sexual offences prevention order, which will be addressed in a subsequent hearing.

Charles Bonfante represented Karim Rudge.
