An Inkersall sex offender and animal abuser from Chesterfield, Joseph Heald, has received a 15-year prohibition on animal ownership following the discovery of an Old English bulldog in what police described as the most deplorable state they had ever encountered in a dog.
Joseph Heald, 29, from Inkersall, Chesterfield, had subjected a young dog to starvation, resulting in a skeletal and emaciated condition due to malnutrition.
Joseph Heald admitted guilt for collaborating with another individual and inflicting undue pain on an Old English bulldog named AJ by neglecting to investigate and rectify the dog’s deteriorating physical condition and weight loss.
A member of the public alerted the RSPCA to AJ, who was reportedly kept outdoors continuously, becoming increasingly emaciated and having difficulty standing.
The caller stated they will personally feed the dog when possible. They additionally proposed to escort him to the veterinarian, but Joseph Heald declined.
The second defendant, who the police will not name presumably so they can do it again, admitted guilt to two charges at a prior hearing. In February 2025, they received a 12-week suspended prison sentence and were prohibited from possessing any animals for 15 years.
Joseph Heald was barred from possessing any animals for 15 years and received a 136-day prison term, suspended for 18 months.
Directed to remit £600 in expenses and a £154 victim surcharge. Prohibited from possessing any animals for a duration of 15 years.
It is recommended that children and animals be monitored when around Joseph Heald.
