A Thorverton Rapist, Jordan Hewitt, who repeatedly altered his narrative in an attempt to evade justice has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
Jordan Hewitt, 33, of Thorverton, was jailed at Exeter Crown Court on Friday, July 25, after being convicted of rape by a jury.
During the trial, the court was informed that in May 2022, the victim socialised with friends in Tiverton.
At the conclusion of the evening, she received a Facebook message from Jordan Hewitt extending an invitation for accommodation.
The victim accompanied Jordan Hewitt to the defendant’s brother’s residence to avoid disturbing her mother.
The victim fell asleep in her attire and was then awakened by Jordan Hewitt assaulting her. She promptly pushed Jordan Hewitt away and contacted her mother for a ride home, revealing to her instantly what had transpired.
Subsequently, the victim transmitted a Facebook message to Jordan Hewitt enquiring, ‘Why did you do that to me?’ Jordan Hewitt entirely disregarded the inquiry and responded by enquiring whether she returned safely, offering her the option to phone him if she wished. She subsequently restricted him access on Facebook.
Approximately three weeks later, Jordan Hewitt encountered a friend of the victim and, acting swiftly, the friend covertly videotaped Jordan Hewitt’s original description of the occurrence.
In the tape, Jordan Hewitt acknowledged penetrating the victim and subsequently ceasing when she pushed him away.
In this narrative, Jordan Hewitt ostensibly attempted to justify his behaviour by stating, ‘she evidently encountered me for amusement’. Jordan Hewitt was subsequently recorded stating that the victim would be compelled to vacate the town and assaulted if the issue proceeded to litigation.
During the questioning, Jordan Hewitt asserted that the victim instigated the sexual conduct. Jordan Hewitt first refuted any allegations of threatening to assault the victim.
A segment of the clandestine tape with the threat was then shown to him, inducing panic in the defendant. He subsequently altered his account to acknowledge making the threat, but without intent.
The remainder of the clandestine tape was subsequently presented to Jordan Hewitt, whereby he recounted his version of the occurrence. This prompted him to panic once more and alter his account, now asserting that the victim did not instruct him to cease, but there was ‘a somewhat peculiar period when she appeared to withdraw.’
In the court case, Jordan Hewitt once more altered his narrative, asserting in his defence statement that he was too intoxicated to engage in sexual activity.
During cross-examination, he altered his testimony once more, asserting that sexual intercourse did not occur due to the uncomfortable angle between himself and the victim, who was positioned with her back to him.
