In 2010, the Offender Database recorded that Jason Alexander, then 24, of Riverside Drive, Aberdeen, escaped a jail sentence after having sex with two schoolgirls aged 13 and 14. On Wednesday, 23 June 2010, the defendant appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court for sentencing. The court reported that Alexander befriended the 13-year-old on the Bebo website and used his car to transport her to a remote location for sexual activity.

The investigation established that Alexander’s predatory behaviour involved multiple locations. Police Scotland reported that he had sex with the younger girl in a Travelodge, at his mother’s home in Elgin, and at his own residence in Aberdeen. The prosecution reported that he later had sex with the girl’s 14-year-old friend at a spot overlooking the Moray Firth, on the outskirts of Inverness.

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Alexander, a mechanical engineer, claimed he believed the girls were older and cited depression following a life-threatening illness and a car accident as mitigating factors. Inverness Sheriff Court heard how the defendant utilized social media to target and groom the children before arranging physical meetings. The prosecution reported that Alexander had previously admitted to multiple counts of underage sex in Aberdeen, Elgin, and Inverness.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen noted that he seriously considered a custodial sentence given the repetitive nature of the abuse across different local authorities. For his actions in Aberdeen, Elgin, and Inverness, Alexander was handed a three-year probation order and ordered to perform 280 hours of community service. The judge noted that the defendant would also be subject to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.

Sentence and Statutory Requirements

For his crimes in Scotland, Jason Alexander was handed:

  • Probation Order: Three years of supervised probation.
  • Community Service: 280 hours of unpaid work.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Notification requirements were activated for three years.
  • Judicial Oversight: Sentenced at Inverness Sheriff Court following guilty pleas.
  • Origin: Riverside Drive, Aberdeen (Offences in Elgin and Inverness).

Monitoring and Public Protection

Alexander is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland and the National Probation Service in the Aberdeen area. Due to the “remote” nature of the locations used for the abuse and his history of using the internet to target schoolgirls, his management is subject to oversight by the Public Protection Unit.

As a member of the Sex Offenders Register, Alexander must comply with notification requirements regarding his identity and residence. Authorities state that his history of driving children to secluded spots for sexual activity necessitates permanent and stringent monitoring of his conduct and digital access. Any further sexual misconduct or breach of his probation conditions in Aberdeen, Inverness, or elsewhere will result in immediate arrest and a return to the court system for a custodial sentence.
