In March 2025, the Offender Database reported that Jamie Cooper-Hawkins, 33, of Smeaton Court, Hertford, Hertfordshire, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court for a sexual assault committed during a night out. Cooper-Hawkins was caught on CCTV targeting a young woman in May 2022.

The court heard that Cooper-Hawkins approached a 19-year-old woman and sexually touched her intimate area over her clothing without her consent. The victim had been enjoying a night out with friends when the incident occurred. Following a trial in December 2024, the jury found him guilty of the assault. Investigator Gary Bangs from the East Herts Local Crime Unit described the act as a “despicable crime,” emphasising that women have the right to go about their lives without being subjected to inappropriate touching.

During the sentencing on February 28, 2025, the judge addressed the serious nature of non-consensual sexual contact. While a second charge of sexual assault against a different woman on the same night resulted in a not guilty verdict, the conviction for the first assault led to significant legal consequences. Cooper-Hawkins was sentenced to 10 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid community service and 30 days of rehabilitation activities.

As a result of his conviction, Jamie Cooper-Hawkins was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years. He is managed under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Hertfordshire. This involves monitoring by Hertfordshire Constabulary and the National Probation Service. In addition to his suspended sentence and rehabilitation requirements, he was ordered to pay £4,380 in prosecution costs.
