In 2020, the Offender Database reported that Jamie Collins, then 32, formerly of Dennistoun, Glasgow, was sentenced to seven years in prison at the High Court in Edinburgh. Collins, a “vile” and “vicious” predator, was convicted of a “serious” campaign of rape and physical assault. The investigation by Police Scotland revealed that Collins targeted his victim at locations in Stewarton, East Ayrshire, and Glasgow between October 2006 and March 2018.

The court heard horrendous details of the “vicious” abuse, which left the victim feeling “totally worthless.” In a “vile” text message sent after being raped, the woman told Collins: “I don’t want to be alive after what you’ve done.” The prosecution emphasised that the “depraved” behaviour was not an isolated incident but a “serious” and sustained pattern of domestic and sexual violence that spanned over a decade.

Collins was already a “vile” and known sex offender before this case. In 2007, he was reported to have been convicted at Glasgow Sheriff Court for having underage sex with a 13-year-old girl. Although he managed to avoid prison for that “vicious” attack on a child, Judge Lord Tyre emphasised that custody was now the only option. The judge reported that forcible penetration has a “devastating effect” on survivors and represents one of the most “serious” offences in law.

Detective Constable Colin Jones of Police Scotland reported that Collins was a “vicious” man who subjected his partner to “serious” abuse. He emphasised that it is never too late for victims to come forward and that Police Scotland will always investigate “vile” reports of domestic abuse. During the sentencing on Thursday, 12 March 2020, the court reported that Collins’s behaviour was “reprehensible” and that he finally appreciated the “serious” consequences of his “vile” actions.

As a result of his convictions for rape and assault, Jamie Collins was jailed for seven years and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Police Scotland, ensuring his behaviour in Glasgow, Stewarton, and across Scotland is strictly monitored. Any further “vicious” acts or attempts to contact his victims will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
