A UNREPENTANT “sexual predator”, James Osborne, the Daventry Paedophile, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for the rape of a young child in the Bradford area.
James Osborne, 42, was found guilty by a jury at Bradford Crown Court on two counts of raping a child under the age of 13.
Following the case, officers stated that James Osborne is “known to have travelled throughout the UK” and encouraged anyone with additional information on him to step forward.
James Osborne was sentenced today via video link to HMP Leeds, where he was remanded in jail.
Prosecutor Gerald Hendron stated that the child now awakens at night in distress and has been especially susceptible due to their age.
Derek Duffy, the counsel for James Osborne, stated that his client fundamentally contests the evidence presented during the trial and is seeking to appeal the conviction.
His restricted capacity due to his position on the autistic spectrum would significantly exacerbate his experience in prison.
Judge Ahmed Nadim stated that the offences exhibited a level of premeditation.
James Osborne, of The Pyghtles, Daventry, Northamptonshire, inflicted both physical and psychological abuse on the youngster.
Judge Nadim observed that the defendant had assistance from an intermediary throughout the trial in November of the previous year due to his autism.
However, there was no evidence regarding how that led to his criminal behaviour.
Due to his failure to acknowledge his actions, he was not deserving of any credit for entering a guilty plea.
Judge Nadim stated that James Osborne exhibited neither remorse nor recognition of the harm he had caused to his victim.
Subsequent to the jury’s guilty convictions, the case was postponed for the probation service to evaluate the degree of dangerousness shown by James Osborne.
Judge Nadim informed him that he must serve a minimum of eight years of the 16-year jail sentence before the Parole Board may evaluate his eligibility for release.
He will then fulfil the remainder of his sentence under a licence with a 12-month extension period.
A Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made without a time limit, and Osborne must also sign on the sex offender register for life.
After the case, Detective Constable Julia Coates, of Bradford Safeguarding Unit, said:
I would first like to praise the bravery of this young child for coming forward and disclosing James Osborne’s offending.
The child was put through the daunting experience of a criminal trial and has shown so much courage and dignity throughout.
I would like to welcome the sentence that has been handed down to James Osborne today for his horrendous crimes.
“He is a sexual predator and his actions and behaviour towards young children are disturbing.
“He is known to have travelled around the UK, and I would urge anyone who has any further information about him to contact the police.
I would also encourage anyone who may have been a victim of any sexual offence to come forward and speak to the police.
“You will be listened to and supported by specially trained officers throughout, and also be referred to further help and support if needed.
“We will do all we can to secure justice for any victim.
