Back in 2022, a Dartmouth Paedophile sex offender, James Ernest Williams, who had been sought by the police for nearly two years, was apprehended after being discovered residing aboard a yacht in the Isle of Wight, among the many, many other paedophiles on the Island.

James Ernest Williams, also referred to as Alan John Appleton, has been among the most sought-after criminals by Devon & Cornwall Police since October 2020, following a request to apprehend the now 55-year-old for violating the terms of his parole.

He did not attend Newton Abbott Magistrates Court on 9 December 2020.

The police arrived at Folly Lane in Whippingham and apprehended James Ernest Williams, subsequently detaining him at Newport Police Station for interrogation.

It is unclear how he was found, but it is evident that his appearance has altered, having gained weight and grown his hair and beard.

The 55-year-old individual, originally from Manchester, has been charged with two charges of failing to comply with sex offender notification obligations and has been remanded in jail to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court on June 30th.

During last Thursday’s hearing, the case was referred to the Crown Court, where James Ernest Williams is scheduled to appear on 5th August.

He has been remanded in custody until that time. James Ernest Williams, or Alan John Appleton as he is more commonly known, comes from the South Devon area with links to Torbay and Dartmouth.

It was thought he was in the Paignton area for a time, then possibly Portsmouth or Reading. His last known address was Clarence Street, Dartmouth.
