A British woman sexually assaulted by a Romanian rapist, while his Lithuanian accomplice recorded the incident in Sheerness, has witnessed the imprisonment of both Indre Bruziene and Vasile Radacanu, the Sittingbourne Rapists.
On 18 September 2020, Indre Bruziene and her partner Vasile Radacanu extended an invitation to the victim to their residence, where they partook in alcoholic beverages.
The victim grew inebriated, and Vasile Radacanu seized the opportunity to sexually assault her while she was incapable of consenting and, at one point, unconscious.
During this incident, Indre Bruziene recorded the abuse from a window and subsequently from within the house. Vasile Radacanu clearly recognised that his activities were being recorded, as he nodded towards the camera multiple times.
The victim regained consciousness the same morning in her own bed, devoid of any recollection of the events that transpired.
On 15 March 2021, she received a call from Indre Bruziene, who accused her of fracturing her family. Indre Bruziene transmitted footage of the sexual assault and demanded £5,000, threatening to send it to the victim’s spouse otherwise.
The aggrieved victim declined to remit the funds and notified her relatives prior to alerting the authorities. Vasile Radacanu, a Romanian national, and Indre Bruziene, a Lithuanian national, were both apprehended the subsequent day.
Authorities confiscated their mobile devices, and after an inquiry, Vasile Radacanu was indicted for two counts of rape, attempted rape, and two counts of sexual assault. Indre Bruziene was indicted for extortion.
The defendants entered a plea of not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and were subsequently convicted of the charges on 28 January 2025 after a trial.
On Thursday, August 14, Vasile Radacanu, 33, of Charlotte Street, Sittingbourne, received a sentence of 12 years and six months’ imprisonment. Indre Bruziene, aged 40, of Alma Road, Sheerness, was sentenced to three years and three months in prison.
