An Epping Paedophile, Hadush Kebatu, apprehended shortly after sexually assaulting a teenage girl in Epping, has been convicted today of many offences.

Hadush Kebatu was apprehended following accusations of a man exhibiting inappropriate behaviour towards a teenage girl on High Road at 5:20 PM on Tuesday, July 8.

Following the police’s efforts in the hours subsequent to the arrest, distinct offences occurring on Monday, July 7, were reported for the first time, prompting the initiation of an inquiry.

The 41-year-old resident of High Road, Epping, was charged overnight.

He refuted all charges during preliminary hearings, culminating in a three-day trial at Chelmsford and Colchester Magistrates’ Courts, which concluded today, Thursday, 4 September.

On 7 July, the court was informed that Hadush Kebatu attempted to kiss the teenage girl on a bench while simultaneously soliciting a kiss from her. He also made several sexually explicit remarks.

On the afternoon of 8 July, Hadush Kebatu approached the same girl and attempted to kiss her again before sexually assaulting her. He continued to make sexually explicit remarks after being informed of the girl’s age and her attire, which included a school uniform.

Prior to this contact, Hadush Kebatu sexually attacked and attempted to kiss an adult woman who had volunteered to assist him in creating a CV for employment purposes.

When she then saw Hadush Kebatu also interacting inappropriately with the teenage girl, she called 999, and he was quickly arrested.

Today, District Judge Christopher Williams found Hadush Kebatu guilty of:

  • Two counts of sexual assault
  • One count of attempted sexual assault
  • One count of inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity
  • One count of harassment without violence

Hadush Kebatu will be sentenced at a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 23 September.

District Judge Williams warned Hadush Kebatu he would be facing an immediate custodial sentence.
