In recent years, several horrific and violent grooming gang cases have been reported across the UK, revealing long-term campaigns of exploitation targeting vulnerable young girls and women. These organised networks frequently utilised drugs, alcohol, and threats to coerce victims into sickening acts of sexual abuse. The following cases illustrate the scope of these depraved activities and the substantial custodial sentences imposed on the perpetrators.

Rochdale, Greater Manchester
Following a series of severe trials, multiple men were convicted for the prolonged abuse of girls in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, dating back to the early 2000s. Mohammed Zahid, known as the ringleader or “Boss Man,” was sentenced to 35 years for child rape, indecency, and procuring a child for sex. Other core members, including Mushtaq Ahmed, Kasir Bashir, Mohammed Shahzad, Naheem Akram, Nisar Hussain, and Roheez Khan, received sentences ranging from 12 to 29 years for various violent sexual offences.

Rotherham, South Yorkshire
Investigations under “Operation Stovewood” uncovered an extensive and horrendous abuse scandal in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, spanning over a decade. In 2024, seven men—Mohammed Amar, Mohammed Siyab, Yasser Ajaibe, Mohammed Zameer Sadiq, Abid Saddiq, Tahir Yassin, and Ramin Bari—were sentenced to a combined total of over 106 years for the sickening sexual abuse of two young girls. These convictions are part of an ongoing effort to address the vile history of failure and exploitation in the area.

Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
In Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, a massive criminal network was dismantled following three separate trials. Ringleader Amere Singh Dhaliwal was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 18 years after being convicted of 54 counts, including 22 rapes. By August 2021, the total number of men convicted in this disturbing case reached 41, with individual sentences ranging from five to 18 years for more than 120 horrific offences against 15 victims.

  • Other Notable Gang Convictions
Bolton, Greater Manchester: In 2025, eight men from a “malign friendship group” were convicted of multiple violent sexual offences, including rape, against a teenage girl.
  • Dundee, Scotland: A Romanian gang consisting of four men and one woman was jailed in 2025 for the depraved rape and abuse of 10 women and girls.
  • Gateshead, Tyne and Wear: A gang of five men received prison terms in late 2025 for the vile rapes and assaults of several girls they targeted in a local park.
  • Derby, Derbyshire: A nine-man “sex gang” was convicted in 2010 for grooming and sickening abuse, which involved supplying victims with drugs and alcohol to facilitate attacks.

As a result of their convictions for these horrific sexual offences, all perpetrators are on the Sex Offenders Register for life (or for the duration of their long-term sentences). They will be managed under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by their respective local forces, including Greater Manchester Police, South Yorkshire Police, West Yorkshire Police, Police Scotland, Northumbria Police, and Derbyshire Constabulary. They will remain under supervision for the duration of their orders.
