A habitual Stanway Sex Offender criminal, Graeme Hicks, who sexually attacked a teenage girl and a woman on a bus, then spat at officers during his arrest, has been sentenced to almost five years in prison.
Graeme Hicks, 33, of Old Chapel Drive, Stanway, was punished following the efforts of our police, which resulted in over 10 charges being brought against him.
Officers from the Braintree Local Policing Team promptly reacted to complaints of an intoxicated individual aboard a bus on Coggeshall Road, Braintree, on 27 December of the previous year.
It was additionally stated that he had indecently exposed himself, made unwelcome sexual contact with a 17-year-old girl and a woman, and subsequently urinated on the bus.
Graeme Hicks thereafter delivered kicks and punches to another passenger.
Officers arrived promptly and apprehended Hicks, who retaliated by spitting on an officer’s face and fighting arrest.
Graeme Hicks faced charges for two counts of sexual assault, exposure, assault resulting in actual bodily harm, two counts of criminal damage, three counts of assaulting an emergency personnel, violation of a suspended sentence order, and possession of cannabis.
He acknowledged each accusation and attended Chelmsford Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, 1 August.
The court acknowledged that the acts had a “profound” impact on the sexual assault victims, who now harbour fears regarding the usage of buses.
Graeme Hicks received an additional term for drug trafficking and firearms crimes after an investigation connected him to the distribution of Class A and B narcotics.
In May 2023, we executed a warrant at Graeme Hicks’s residence in Stanway, confiscating several items, including proof of cocaine and cannabis trafficking, as well as an air pistol.
Subsequent to a prior sentence, he was prohibited from holding any handgun or ammunition for a duration of five years, thus violating this stipulation.
Graeme Hicks remained under investigation for these charges subsequent to his arrest.
The Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges for involvement in the supply of cocaine and cannabis, as well as possession of a firearm while forbidden, against them in late 2024.
He was sentenced to a total of five years and seven months of incarceration for all charges.
Officer in the case DC Katie George, of Braintree CID, said in what turned out to be a self serving statement:
“Graeme Hicks is a prolific offender and Essex is a safer place with him off our streets.
“He is rightly facing a significant prison sentence.
“Intoxicated or not, his actions towards strangers – one of whom was a lone teenage girl – were deplorable and sexually motivated.
“This case, and many others, demonstrate our commitment to tackling such unacceptable and harmful behaviour directed towards women and girls in Essex.
“We’ve managed to secure charges relating to a number of matters against this offender, proving that his widespread criminality will not go unpunished.
“This case also illustrates the unacceptable behaviour often faced by our officers who are simply going about their work trying to keep the public safe.
“To spit at, kick and assault officers, who are engaging in a polite and professional manner, is sadly not an uncommon offence.
“Officers do not expect and do not deserve to go to work to face such disgusting attacks.”
