In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Glenn Jones, then 56, of Tutsham Way, Tonbridge, Kent, was sentenced to three years and six months in prison at Guildford Crown Court. Jones, a disgraced former Oxfordshire police inspector with Thames Valley Police, was caught in a serious undercover operation after travelling to Shoreham, West Sussex, with the “full intention” of sexually abusing a child. This vile act was committed while he was already a registered sex offender, having been previously jailed for a horrific collection of child abuse material found at his then-home in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

The investigation by the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU) revealed that between August and September 2018, Jones had spent “significant time” grooming and arranging a meeting with a child. Despite his deplorable claims that he was merely “curious” and had no intent to cause harm, a jury unanimously found him guilty. Detective Inspector Emily Evans reported that Jones had travelled over 50 miles from Tonbridge to a shopping centre in Shoreham specifically to carry out abhorrent sexual acts, showing he had learned nothing from his previous vicious offending.

Glenn Jones had a long career spanning 32 years as a police officer, primarily based in Oxford, Oxfordshire, before retiring. His vicious double life first came to light in 2015 when a raid on his home uncovered nearly 3,000 indecent images and videos, some featuring children as young as one year old. Prosecutors reported that his digital offending began as early as 2009 while he was still a serving inspector, representing a horrendous breach of public trust and a serious betrayal of the oath he took to protect the vulnerable.

As a result of his conviction for the commission of an offence of sexual activity with a child, Glenn Jones was sentenced to three and a half years in custody plus three years on extended licence. He remains on the Sex Offenders Register for life and is subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Kent Police and SEROCU, ensuring he remains under intensive supervision. Any further predatory behaviour or presence near children in Tonbridge, Shoreham, or Oxford will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
