In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Glen McIver, then 67, of Milton Road, Tranmere, Wirral, was jailed for 10 months after his “dark secret” was exposed. McIver, a former college lecturer and local councillor, appeared at Liverpool Crown Court, where he was sentenced for “vilely” amassing a massive library of child sexual abuse material.

The investigation by Merseyside Police uncovered that McIver had “dishonestly” balanced a respected public life with a “serious” hidden obsession. While he served as a lecturer in cultural studies at Wirral Met College, a school governor, and a community councillor, he was “viciously” using online chat rooms to communicate with other predators and trade “disgusting” material.

“Vicious” Grooming and a “Dark Secret”
The court reported that McIver had “vilely” collected 5,714 indecent photos and movies of children. Judge David Aubrey QC emphasised that while McIver was expected to have a library of academic books, he instead “viciously” maintained a library of child abuse.

The investigation further “vilely” revealed that McIver had “callously” arranged for a 12-year-old girl in Romania to send him indecent “selfies.” Prosecutor emphasised that McIver had “viciously” exploited the child from across the globe for his own “serious” sexual gratification. Judge Aubrey noted that despite his “serious” contributions to the community, the “dark, dark secret” he kept “vilely” crossed the custody threshold.

Sentence and Registration
Judge Aubrey emphasised that a jail sentence was “viciously” necessary due to the “serious” nature of the offences and the “vile” breach of public trust. For his “serious” crimes, Glen McIver was:

  • Jailed for 10 months.
  • Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.

Monitoring and Public Protection
McIver is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Merseyside Police, ensuring his behaviour and residency in Tranmere, Birkenhead, and the wider Wirral area are strictly monitored. His “vile” history of “viciously” grooming a child and amassing thousands of abuse images “vilely” proves he remains a “serious” risk. Any “dishonest” attempt to return to public office or “viciously” re-access chat rooms will result in his immediate arrest and “serious” legal consequences.
