The Southampton Rapist, Gergel Ludanyi, has received a term for sexually assaulting a lady at the Creamfields music event in Daresbury.

Gergel Ludanyi, residing on Adelaide Road, Southampton, was sentenced to eight years in jail at Chester Crown Court on Friday, April 25.

The 35-year-old, Gergel Ludanyi, was previously convicted of sexual assault by penetration and two charges of sexual assault by touching.

During the trial, the court learnt that the victim had participated at the Creamfields music event with a group of friends in August 2022. During that time, in the early morning hours, the victim was confronted by Gergel Ludanyi, who had been employed at the festival’s carnival.

Gergel Ludanyi attempted to kiss the victim, but she repelled him. She subsequently began to feel ill and reclined on the floor before losing consciousness.

Upon regaining consciousness, the victim observed that the sun had risen and Gergel Ludanyi was positioned above her. She attempted to dislodge Gergel Ludanyi before losing consciousness once more.

A witness observed Gergel Ludanyi manipulating the victim’s garments while he sexually assaulted her, with the victim remaining unconscious throughout the incident.

The duration of time that elapsed before the victim regained consciousness to see Gergel Ludanyi positioned atop her is uncertain. She repelled him for the third time before the witness intervened and assisted her to her feet. The women subsequently notified security and Cheshire Police about the event.

Gergel Ludanyi was then detained and subsequently charged in connection with the event.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Sophia Haywood said: “Firstly, I would like to recognise the bravery the victim has shown throughout this investigation and subsequent court proceedings. Secondly, I want to recognise the strength and compassion of the witness, who didn’t know the victim, and didn’t just ignore what she saw.

“Nobody should have to experience what the victim has been through, and I hope that the sentence handed to Gergel Ludanyi will provide the victim with some closure and help her recover from what she has been through.

“Gergel Ludanyi chose to take advantage of a woman while she could not consent, and then he put her through an extremely traumatic trial, where she had to relive the impact of this crime.

“However, thanks to the officers involved in this complex case, along with the victim’s courage and tenacity, Gergel Ludanyi will now have to face the consequences of his actions behind bars.”
