In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Gavin Evans, then 42, of Cwmamman Road, Glanaman, Carmarthenshire, was sentenced to four years in prison at Swansea Crown Court. Evans was convicted of a vile and predatory string of child sex offences, which included downloading child pornography and “swapping” the images with other depraved individuals online. The investigation revealed that former Tesco employee Gavin Evans used sickening manipulation to persuade teenage girls to abuse themselves, filming the acts and sending him the footage, which he then distributed.
The court heard that Dyfed-Powys Police examined Evans’ mobile phone and discovered horrific indecent images of children as young as four years of age. Forensic examination of his computers showed that he had systematically pretended to be a 20-year-old to infiltrate online spaces, where he downloaded 476 chat room streams involving teenage girls. Mr Recorder Chris Clee noted that Gavin Evans had coerced a 14-year-old girl into filming sexual acts, later vilely taunting her by claiming he had already shared the footage with 12 other men.
Gavin Evans admitted to 11 offences involving the possession and distribution of indecent images and inciting underage girls to engage in sexual activity. The prosecution detailed how he acted as a facilitator for other pedatry individuals, instructing them on how to access a website containing over 600 vile videos and images. His horrendous persistence was highlighted by the fact that he maintained daily contact with a 15-year-old girl over a six-month period while hiding his true identity.
As a result of his convictions for these serious sexual crimes, Gavin Evans was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for life, which strictly limits his access to children and his use of the internet. He is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Dyfed-Powys Police, remaining under intensive supervision for the duration of his life. Any further predatory behaviour or breach of his strict registration requirements in Glanaman or elsewhere will result in his immediate arrest and return to prison.
