A Benwell paedophile pensioner, Gary Telford, is confronting imprisonment after downloading 100’s of horrific child sexual abuse photos.

Police confiscated Gary Telford’s equipment after conducting a search of his Benwell residence, prompted by a tip-off from the National Crime Agency.

A court was informed that 423 abhorrent images of minors were discovered on the gadgets of the 65-year-old, Gary Telford, comprising 69 category B and 354 category C photographs. There were no instances of the most severe, category A, type.

Gary Telford, residing on Benwell Close in Benwell, is now confronting a potential jail sentence after admitting guilt to two charges of producing indecent pictures of minors.

Glenda Beck, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court, stated that Gary Telford downloaded the photographs between February 18, 2023, and April 5, 2024.

Mrs Beck continued: “Intelligence passed from the National Crime Agency to Northumbria Police in August 2023 stated that a user of a Microsoft account associated with the defendant’s address had been downloading indecent images. The address was located and the defendant was identified as the sole occupant.

“Officers attended and the defendant was arrested. He made no comment to questions asked during interview.

His electronic equipment was seized and examined and, as a result, category B and C images were identified.”

The court was informed that Gary Telford had no prior convictions and that his whole mitigation would be presented at a subsequent hearing.

District Judge Kate Meek stated, “I will adjourn your case to facilitate the preparation of a pre-sentence report to gather further information about you and the circumstances surrounding this offence.”

Gary Telford was granted unconditional bail and is scheduled to return to the same court on August 26.
