Garry Gibbons, the East London Paedophile, has been incarcerated for raping a girl in her own bed. Garry Gibbons, 36, of Mile End, East London, received a sentence of six years and four months for the rape of a minor under 18 at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, March 13.

On 18 April 2023, Garry Gibbons was slumbering in the living room of a residence while his young victim was resting in a bedroom. He arose in the early morning, entered the room where she was slumbering, and thereafter assaulted her sexually “notwithstanding her objections,” according to the police.

The victim subsequently escaped to a friend’s residence, where the police were notified. Forensic samples collected from the victim’s clothing were subsequently identified as a match for Garry Gibbons.

Garry Gibbons was apprehended on August 31, 2023, on allegations of rape, which he refuted, despite having left DNA evidence on the victim. He was found guilty on March 6, 2024.

Detective Inspector Chris Heathcote of the Metropolitan Police’s Public Protection Unit in Tower Hamlets stated: “Garry Gibbons is a predatory offender who assaulted a young girl while she slept and, despite her objections, raped her.”

He vehemently refuted the charge, asserting that he had not entered the room and that he had slept throughout the night. Nevertheless, DNA analysis of samples collected from the victims’ clothing yielded contrary results.

He stated that he is gratified by Garry Gibbons’ removal from the community to a location where he no longer presents a danger to women and girls.

We acknowledge the distress associated with reporting rape, especially when the perpetrator is an acquaintance. I implore anyone in that circumstance to reach out, if only to confirm your well-being. My sympathies are with the survivor in this case. I hope she can now attain a sense of closure.
