In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Father Francis William Simpson, the Wigan Paedophile Child Rapist, a priest, was sentenced for a series of abhorrent sexual assaults on young boys that occurred over decades.

Father Francis William Simpson, then 71 years old, had previously served as the parish priest of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church on Kirkstone Road West, Litherland, before relocating to Chorley in 2016.

On Friday, a jury at Bolton Crown Court found him guilty of nine charges of indecent assault after a ten-day trial.

The court was informed that Father Francis William Simpson sexually assaulted the boys while serving as a priest at Worsley Mesnes St Jude’s Church in Wigan during the 1980s.

They were not considered to be associated with his period in Litherland many years later.

He was registered as a sex offender for a duration of ten years and is prohibited from future employment involving children.

Father Francis William Simpson will be permanently barred from resuming his role as a pastor in the church following his sentence.

Father Francis William Simpson, currently residing on Knightscliffe Crescent in Shevington, Wigan, has been suspended (not excommunicated) by the Archdiocese of Liverpool following his arrest by Greater Manchester Police.
