A Romanian Camborne Rapist, Eugen Simion, who sexually assaulted and raped an English lady in a field while she was returning home from an evening out has received an 18-year prison sentence.
Eugen Simion, 21, a Romanian citizen residing on Praze Road, Camborne, was jailed at Truro Crown Court on Monday, 18 August, after being convicted of rape by a jury during a trial.
During the trial, the court was informed that at approximately 1:40 AM on February 2, 2025, the victim arrived at Camborne Police Station on foot, seeming disturbed, clad in muddy attire, and barefoot.
The woman promptly reported that she had been raped by an unidentified male 30 minutes earlier in a nearby field.
She recounted her experience in Camborne town centre prior to attempting to secure a taxi. Upon failure, she proceeded home on foot.
The CCTV footage depicted the victim as shaky on her feet. She remembered an unfamiliar male attempting to kiss her, but she repelled him.
The victim informed investigators that her next recollection was being assaulted by the man in a dimly lit field.
Several items were absent from her handbag upon arriving at the police station. Several things were subsequently retrieved at the location during a meticulous search.
Officers promptly commenced the search for the suspect and identified Eugen Simion through CCTV investigations. He was apprehended on February 6.
During the interview, Eugen Simion stated that he had also been socialising with friends in Camborne but returned home due to excessive intoxication.
He reported encountering the victim, who seemed to be intoxicated. Eugen Simion asserted that the victim commenced sexual activity prior to requesting him to cease, which he did.
Eugen Simion stated that he could be shown fleeing the scene on the tape due to the late hour, darkness, and cold conditions, as he desired to return home. He stated that he appropriated the victim’s bank card, believing it to be his own owing to the obscurity.
