In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Eileen McBrien, then 62, of Ancoats, Manchester, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court. McBrien was jailed for six years after luring a girl under the age of 10 into a property and forcing her to perform a sexual act.
The court heard that the incident occurred in the summer of 2017. The young victim displayed immense bravery by reporting the attack to her mother in August 2017, just weeks after the ordeal. Despite the compelling evidence, Eileen McBrien denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty, forcing the child to relive the traumatic experience through a full trial. Investigating officer Sergeant Laura Halley described the case as “harrowing” and condemned McBrien for causing further trauma to the family by refusing to take responsibility for her actions.
Following her conviction for inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, Eileen McBrien was sentenced to six years in prison. Judge Richard Mansell QC noted the predatory nature of the attack and the significant psychological impact on the victim. The Sergeant expressed hope that the sentence would provide a sense of closure for the family, allowing them to begin the process of moving on with their lives.
In addition to her custodial sentence, Eileen McBrien was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life. She was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) indefinitely, which carries strict conditions to prevent her from having unsupervised contact with children or luring minors in the future.
