Edward Rose, the Leek Sex Offender, a volunteer litter-picker, who overcame a drug addiction and received commendation for his efforts in cleaning his hometown, is now a convicted sex offender following an assault on a youngster.
Edward Rose garnered media attention after purchasing a £1,400 litter cart, revitalising the streets of Leek, joining the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s Pick Fit team, and transforming his life.
However, within one month after being featured in the publication, the 32-year-old perpetrated a sexual assault upon a 17-year-old female at Leek Bus Station.
Edward Rose pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault and has subsequently been jailed at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
Prosecutor David Bennett informed the court: “They greeted each other, after which the defendant enquired if the victim was 15.” She responded that she was 17 years old.
The dialogue subsequently escalated to a sexual nature. The defendant enquired whether the victim’s companion was her romantic partner.
Edward Rose enquired about her proficiency in oral sex. He subsequently enquired if she would accompany him to the Premier Inn parking lot to engage in oral sex.
“The defendant, Edward Rose, grabbed her lower waist and groin area several times.
He told her that he wanted to ‘f*** her’.
He attempted to kiss her, leaning in so close she could feel his beard brush her cheek.
The victim told her friend she was uncomfortable and asked to leave.
Edward Rose touched her right buttock as she walked away.
“The impact on the victim has been huge. She says she felt suicidal. She has suffered panic attacks and broken sleep, which have affected her education. She says she now feels uncomfortable around men – even those from her own family.”
Edward Rose’s eyes brimmed with tears as the details of the case were presented to the courtroom.
Edward Rose, from Leek, evaded incarceration with the issuance of a 15-month suspended prison sentence. It comprises 30 days of rehabilitation.
