The Offender Database reported that Don Gailey, a Newtownstewart Paedophile Sex Offender, whose photograph the police declined to reveal, citing that he did not get a prison sentence.
Don Gailey of Castle View, Newtownstewart, County Tyrone, confessed to engaging in sexual communication with minors, having posed as a teenager in January 2024.
The 47-year-old former loyalist bandsman tracked the TikTok accounts of five girls and solicited detailed descriptions of their sexual experiences.
Gailey’s misconduct was revealed when one of the girls with whom he was conversing had her phone seized at school, leading her mother to discover the conversations and notify both the other child’s mother and the authorities.
He persisted, “You are hesitant to address the origins of your transgressions and assert a lack of sexual interest in children, which is evidently inaccurate.”
“You were aware that you were conversing with children.” The presence of five individuals amplifies the gravity of the situation.
You requested images from them, thereby exacerbating responsibility. You remain in denial over your aberrant attraction to minors.”
Initially suggesting a suitable prison term of 12 months, Judge Sherrard stated: “Although the public is justified in seeking appropriate punishment, the court must acknowledge that a brief term of imprisonment will offer minimal protection for children.”
Gailey received a three-year Probation Order and was mandated to register as a sex offender for five years.
