In 2018, the Offender Database recorded that Dennis Moore, then 71, and his sister Susan Truscott, then 64, were sentenced for what a judge described as “the depths of depravity.” On Tuesday, 27 November 2018, the siblings appeared at Leicester Crown Court following a jury trial that uncovered decades of historical sexual abuse against two young girls.

The investigation established that Moore, of Ambleside Drive, Eyres Monsell, Leicester, raped the first victim on an almost weekly basis during the late 1980s when she was no more than 13. Truscott, formerly of Barfoot Road, Leicester, was found guilty of procuring the girl as a “sexual object” for her brother and watching the abuse for her own gratification. In the late 1990s, Moore targeted a second 12-year-old girl, whom he “picked up” outside shops and exploited in exchange for cigarettes.

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Truscott acted as a secondary party by aiding, abetting, and encouraging the repeated rapes of the first victim. Judge Timothy Spencer QC noted that Truscott would confiscate the five-pound “rewards” Moore gave the child. The judge described the victims as “easy prey” who were violated, unloved, and abandoned, leading to “blighted and miserable” lives marked by serious and lasting psychological damage.

The judge noted that Moore had absolutely no insight into the damage he had wreaked on both women. For his actions in Leicester, Leicestershire, Moore was sentenced to 19 years in prison, while Truscott received 10 years for her role in the abuse of the first girl. The prosecution noted that the investigation relied on the remarkable courage of the survivors who confronted their abusers in court with moving personal impact statements.
