In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that David Prothero, 39, of Tumble, Carmarthenshire, was sentenced to 10 years and six months in prison. Prothero appeared at court, where he pleaded guilty to a series of disturbing sexual and physical offences against four young, innocent victims.

The court heard that the paedophile systematically abused a position of trust over a period of time. His convictions included two counts of oral rape of a 13-year-old female, four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a female under 18, and four counts of sexual assault. Additionally, Prothero was sentenced for the ill-treatment of a child and assault by beating. Detective Inspector Rebecca Thomas, of the Carmarthenshire Rape Investigation Team, praised the “immense bravery” of the victims, noting that their courage to speak out was ultimately what led to Prothero’s incarceration. One victim poignantly remarked, “he can’t control me anymore,” following his guilty pleas.

On January 5, 2026, David Prothero was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison. The judge emphasised that no child should suffer abuse in a setting where they expect to feel safe and highlighted the predatory nature of Prothero’s actions. The sentencing aims to provide the survivors with a sense of freedom and justice as they begin to move forward with their lives.

As a result of his convictions for serious sexual offences against children, Prothero has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He is managed under the highest level of Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Carmarthenshire. Upon his eventual release, he will be subject to a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which legally bars him from any unsupervised contact with children and places strict permanent restrictions on his residency and internet activity to ensure the continued safety of the community.
