In 2012, the Offender Database reported that David Matthews, the Ripon Rapist Sex Offender, a man from North Yorkshire, was sentenced to nearly seven years in prison for the false imprisonment and sexual abuse of a woman.
David Matthews, previously of Manor Barn, Ripon, admitted guilt to counts encompassing wrongful detention, sexual assault, and attempted rape, subsequent to an event that occurred last October.
The court was informed that David Matthews, then 50, stated to the victim that he “merely desired a cuddle” before restraining her wrists and feet, severing her clothing with a craft knife, and thereafter sexually assaulting her.
Stephen Ashurst, the Recorder of York, informed Matthews: “She sincerely believed she was on the verge of death, and you derived pleasure from her evident distress and terror.” Your conduct was exceedingly cruel.
David Matthews received a sentence of six years and eight months in prison.
