In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Danny Lodge, then 25, of Bishops Way, London, was sentenced to life imprisonment at Lincoln Crown Court. Lodge, a vile and vicious predator with 44 previous convictions, carried out a “sickening” attack on a 19-year-old man with autism and learning difficulties. The investigation by Lincolnshire Police revealed that Lodge lured the vulnerable victim to a room at the Travelodge in Spalding, Lincolnshire, where he repeatedly stabbed him, later telling prison professionals that he “just wanted to kill someone.”
The court heard horrendous details of the assault, which was joined by Lodge’s partner, Leanne Thornton, then 43, of Gosberton, Lincolnshire. While Lodge used a butterfly knife to stab the teenager in the thigh, chin, and back, Thornton callously threw boiling water mixed with sugar—a mixture designed to stick to the skin and cause maximum pain—at the victim. The “depraved” couple then forced the bleeding teenager to clean his own blood from the hotel sheets before marching him at knifepoint to a nearby river and pushing him into the water.
During the sentencing on 12 January 2026, Judge Simon Hirst reported that Danny Lodge posed a “serious” and ongoing risk to the public, citing his chilling admissions while on remand that he still harboured the desire to kill. The victim, who was left “timid” and traumatised by the vile ordeal, managed to clamber out of the river to alert the authorities. Lincolnshire Police noted that both defendants were aggressive toward officers during their arrest and had attempted to destroy evidence by cleaning the hotel room in Spalding.
As a result of his conviction for causing grievous bodily harm with intent, perverting the course of justice, and assaulting an emergency worker, Danny Lodge was handed a life sentence. He must serve a minimum of six and a half years before he can apply for parole, though the judge stressed that release is not automatic. He will remain on the Sex Offenders Register, if applicable, or be subject to lifelong supervision. Leanne Thornton was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for her “horrific” role in the attack. Both remain managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) to ensure the safety of the community in Lincolnshire.
In the UK, the term’ life sentence’ is considered a joke. Clearly, 6 and a half years is not a life sentence, and although it is unlikely that Danny Lodge will get parole after that time, he will likely serve no more than 12 years of his “life sentence”, so his answer to “Why” would be “Why not?”
