A Irthlingborough man,Daniel Michael, who obstructed a police vehicle while engaging in indecent self-touching was received a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to prevent future offences.

On the evening of September 17, 2024, a police officer patrolling the A43 traversed a layby adjacent to the northbound highway, near Hannington.

As he proceeded, Daniel Michael observed three males adjacent to a stationary van, one of whom momentarily concealed himself before stepping into the path of the oncoming vehicle while engaging in inappropriate self-touching.

Upon recognising the vehicle as a designated Northamptonshire Police unit, the man attempted to escape to his car but was swiftly apprehended and arrested.

Daniel Michael, 33 years old, was charged with one count of exposure in violation of section 66 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 – deliberately revealing his genitals with the aim that someone would observe them and experience fear or distress.

After denying the allegation, he was convicted at Northampton Magistrates’ Court on May 6.

On June 20, Daniel Michael, residing on Gardenfields Close in Irthlingborough, was sentenced to a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) prohibiting him from unzipping, loosening, or removing any clothing that conceals his genitals, or engaging in any conduct that may expose his genitals to others in public or in any private location visible to the public, without their prior consent.

Daniel Michael is required to grant prompt access to his residence to police officers or personnel from the Force’s ViSOR unit.

He was additionally mandated to remit a fine of £1,153, a victim surcharge of £461, and costs amounting to £85.
