Craig Saunders, the Nottinghamshire Rapist, a rapist who absconded from the nation in a vain effort to evade prosecution, has been incarcerated.

In November 2020, Craig Saunders was reported to Nottinghamshire Police following a disclosure made by his adolescent victim to a teacher at her school.

Craig Saunders refuted any misconduct, even when confronted with incriminating forensic evidence during a subsequent interview with detectives.

At 39 years old, Craig Saunders was scheduled to stand trial in September of this year, but absconded from the nation while on bail.

After failing to register at a police station as mandated, he departed for Turkey on 6 September with a return ticket.

Upon his failure to return as scheduled ten days later, it was revealed that he had proceeded to Lanzarote via Zurich, indicating a deliberate intention to avoid apprehension.

Craig Saunders was apprehended and detained for extradition to the UK with assistance from Spain’s Guardia Civil and the National Crime Agency (NCA).

After a trial at Nottingham Crown Court conducted in his absence, Craig Saunders — currently incarcerated at HMP Nottingham — was convicted of rape and sexual assault.

All offences transpired in Nottinghamshire.

On Friday, 18 October, Craig Saunders was sentenced to 10 years and six months of incarceration at the same court.

He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which would significantly limit his interactions with young women upon release.
