In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Christopher Cuthbertson, then 42, a former policeman, was jailed for 13 years after “vilely” arranging to meet several underage boys in order to rape them. Cuthbertson appeared at Worcester Crown Court where he accepted 11 “serious” charges, including possessing and sending indecent images of children.

The investigation by West Mercia Police culminated in a “vicious” police sting at Strensham Services, near Worcester, Worcestershire. Cuthbertson arrived at the services “callously” expecting to meet another adult whom he believed would facilitate sexual activity with a 12-year-old boy. Upon his arrest, forensic analysis of his mobile phone “viciously” revealed evidence of other arranged meet-ups with real children, one of whom was reported to be as young as five years old.

Betrayal of Public Trust
DCI Gavin Kinrade emphasised his relief that “highly trained specialist officers” intervened before Cuthbertson could “live out his fantasies.” The prosecution reported that as a former police officer, Cuthbertson had “dishonestly” used his knowledge of the law to attempt to evade detection while targeting the most vulnerable.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) described the matter as a “shocking case,” with Georgina Hewins commending the “quality of the investigation” that ensured the charges reflected the “vile” and “vicious” severity of his predatory behaviour.

Sentence and Indefinite Monitoring
For his “serious” catalogue of crimes, Cuthbertson was sentenced to 13 years in prison. The judge emphasised that the sentence was necessary to protect the community from his “depraved” and “vicious” sexual intent.

As a result of his conviction for attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and possessing indecent images, Christopher Cuthbertson was:

  • Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
  • Jailed for 13 years.

Cuthbertson is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by West Mercia Police, ensuring his behaviour and digital activities in Worcester and the wider Worcestershire area are strictly monitored upon his release. Any future “vile” conduct or attempt to contact minors will result in his immediate arrest and return to custody.
