In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Charlotte Owens, then in her 30s, of Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, was scheduled to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court to face new allegations of child abuse, neglect, and cruelty. Owens, who also utilises the surnames Webster and Morris, has a vicious history of violence within the family home. Her latest appearance in Court 6 follows a serious investigation into the welfare of children under her care, marking a return to the criminal justice system after previously avoiding prison for a “vile” and “violent” attack.

The court previously heard horrendous details of a 2020 incident where Owens went “berserk” after a drinking session. Upon being woken by the noise of her husband and five children playing, she flew into a depraved rage, smashing an en-suite mirror. When a 14-year-old girl attempted to calm her, Owens grabbed a shard of glass and slashed the teenager twice across the chest, slicing through her clothing and into her flesh. As the bleeding child attempted to call the police, Owens continued her vicious rampage, stabbing the girl in the foot with the glass shard.

During that previous trial, it was reported that Charlotte Owens further terrorised the household by brandishing a wooden spindle from the staircase, forcing her estranged husband and the four terrified younger children to flee the property. Despite the serious and violent nature of the assault on the teenager, Owens walked free from court with a community payback order, one year of supervision, and a two-year non-harassment order. The leniency of the initial sentence caused concern regarding the ongoing safety of the children in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire.

As a result of the new charges of child abuse and neglect, Charlotte Owens appeared for a court hearing of her case on Tuesday, 13 January 2026. These latest allegations suggest a prolonged failure to provide a safe environment, following her previous horrific breach of trust. She remains under the monitoring of Police Scotland and social services in Hamilton. Any further violent outbursts or evidence of cruelty in South Lanarkshire will be met with serious legal consequences, as the court considers her “vile” history of domestic violence and the “horrendous” impact on her victims.
