In May 2021, the initial victim reported a series of episodes in which British Guest Charles Liburd, the Maidstone Paedophile and Sex Offender, raped and molested her in her home from ages 7 to 9.

The victim revealed the numerous instances in which Charles Liburd assaulted her and imposed himself on her.

She disclosed the long-term effects this has had on her mental health, which motivated her to report the charges.

In September 2023, during the inquiry into Charles Liburd, police from the Longsight District Investigation Team identified a second victim.

She bravely came forward and reported the same culprit who raped and repeatedly assaulted her from ages 7 to 11.

The victim recounted several occasions of sexual assault by him, despite her attempts to resist, and she vividly remembers an incident in which she was raped while asleep in her own bedroom, awakening to find him on top of her.

The courage of both victims in recounting their experiences resulted in Charles Liburd receiving a Sexual Harm Prevention Order before his trial, thereby protecting both victims and numerous other girls around Greater Manchester.

Charles Liburd showed no contrition during his trial and, when interrogated, alleged that both girls were fabricating their accounts, a claim that was dismissed by the authorities and the jurors, who ensured his conviction.

In her victim impact statement, one of the women shared with the court the damaging and lasting impact this has had on her and her family’s mental health over the years and why she has chosen to come forward to get the justice she deserves:

“The trauma has followed me into adulthood, causing me mental health issues and shaping who I am and how I see the world today. The scars and trauma will never completely go away.

“I find it difficult to build close relationships, and even when people show me kindness, I question their intentions.

“I have felt weak for not speaking out sooner; with that comes feelings of guilt for not protecting other potential victims. What I have come to understand is that, as a child, the silence was not a sign of weakness; it was a sign of survival.

“The guilt I have carried for nearly my whole life was never mine to hold. It belonged to my abuser, Charles Liburd, who has shown no remorse or accountability for his actions nor the mental torture he inflicted on me and my family.”

Charles Liburd (27/07/1961) of Quarry Road, Maidstone, Kent, has been sentenced today at Manchester Square Crown Court after being found guilty of 11 counts, including indecent assault and sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 years.

Charles Liburd was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment, with an additional two years on licence.

This sentencing comes after two brave women reported the offences that occurred from 1986 to 1994.
