The Carlisle Rapist, Carl Van Wyk, was sentenced to imprisonment at Newcastle Crown Court yesterday (July 29) for 20 sexual crimes.
Carl Van Wyk, 55, of Carlisle, received a sentence of 24 years.
Carl Van Wyk was convicted of the offences at Newcastle Crown Court on 19 June 2025 after a trial.
The offences occurred between 2015 and 2022. They encompass offences of rape, sexual assault, and the creation of indecent photographs.
Detective Constable Rebecca Lynch from Cumberland CID said “Carl Van Wyk is a dangerous offender and subjected his victims to horrific abuse over a long period of time.
“We would like to thank the victims for their bravery throughout this investigation as well as those that assisted us in reaching the verdict.
“We hope this sentencing provides reassurance to victims that action will be taken against dangerous offenders to bring them to justice.
