In 2025, the Offender Database recorded that Bruno Sala, then 39, of Middle Park Way, Havant, Hampshire, and Edson Domingos, then 41, of Elm Grove, Southsea, Hampshire, were jailed for a series of violent rapes. On Friday, 28 November 2025, both men appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court for sentencing. The court reported that the offences, which took place in Portsmouth and Southampton, Hampshire, involved the systematic abuse and drugging of three women between 2019 and 2021.

The investigation established that Sala, a Portuguese national, met the victims online and established relationships before transitioning into violent and controlling behaviour. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary reported that through Operation Amberstone, it was discovered that Sala used drugs to facilitate the rapes and often used physical violence to subdue the women. The prosecution reported that Sala even arranged for his friend, Edson Domingos, to rape one of the victims, later claiming the act was not rape because he had given Domingos “permission.”

Judicial Findings and Investigative Detail

The court reported that Sala exhibited an extreme desire for control, on one occasion telling a victim he was “her boss” after she refused consensual sex. Portsmouth Crown Court heard that Domingos, a dual UK and Angolan national, was complicit in the predatory scheme orchestrated by Sala. The prosecution reported that the victims, all women in their 40s, were subjected to repeated attacks that were described as “calculated and brutal” by the investigating teams.

The judge noted the predatory nature of both defendants and the severe psychological and physical harm inflicted on the survivors. For his actions in Portsmouth and Southampton, Hampshire, Bruno Sala was sentenced to life imprisonment for six counts of rape and multiple counts of assault and assisting an offence. Edson Domingos was found to be a “dangerous” offender and was sentenced to 15 years in prison for two counts of rape.

Sentences and Statutory Requirements

For their crimes in England, the defendants were handed the following sentences:

  • Bruno Sala: Life imprisonment with a minimum term of 20 years.
  • Edson Domingos: 15 years in prison plus an extended 3 years on licence due to dangerousness.
  • Sex Offenders Register: Both men were placed on the register for life.
  • Judicial Oversight: Sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court following an Operation Amberstone investigation.

Monitoring and Public Protection

Sala and Domingos are managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the prison estate. Due to the “violent and controlling” nature of the rapes in Portsmouth, Southampton, and Havant, Hampshire, their management is subject to the highest level of oversight by the Public Protection Unit.

As members of the Sex Offenders Register, both men must comply with notification requirements regarding their identity and nationality for the remainder of their lives. Authorities state that Sala’s status as a foreign national and his use of digital platforms to target victims necessitate permanent travel restrictions and intense digital monitoring should he ever be considered for release. Any breach of their registration conditions or licence terms will result in immediate arrest and a return to Portsmouth Crown Court.
