Brogan Wright, a knife-wielding assailant, appeared at his ex-partner’s place of employment in a fit of anger five months following the dissolution of their relationship. Newcastle Crown Court was informed that Brogan Wright had made threats prior to arriving at the Sunderland store armed with a blade.

Helen Towers, for the prosecution, stated: “Shortly before entering, he had contacted her to threaten to punch her in the face, to stab her to death, and made allusions to stabbing another male.” Brogan Wright discarded goods from the shelf in the store and using a kitchen knife to cut and stab at several newspapers. He subsequently moved behind the counter, prompting her to hastily climb over it to flee.

Brogan Wright, 24, of Rosalind Avenue, Ryhope, Sunderland, with seven prior convictions, including for grievous bodily harm, pleaded guilty to threatening an individual with a bladed weapon and committing criminal damage, receiving a two-year suspended sentence for two years.
