In 2019, the Offender Database reported that Brian Lane, then 42, of Elsenham Road, Grimsby, was sentenced to six years and three months in prison at Grimsby Crown Court. Lane, a serial sex offender with a history of “appalling” violence against children, admitted to sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 10 and breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO).
The investigation established that between September and December 2018, Lane breached his court order by allowing two children under 16 into his home and sleeping in the same house. During this period, he intimately touched a young girl. When confronted, Lane accused the child of being a “liar.” The girl’s father reported that the incident left the victim unable to sleep and caused major shock to the family.
Historical Offences and Identity Change
The court heard that Lane was previously jailed for 15 years at Chester Crown Court in November 2004 for 22 offences of rape and indecent assault against four girls. One of those victims, then a child, became pregnant and underwent an abortion. After his release from that sentence, Lane changed his surname to conceal his identity. He was also jailed for 18 months in 2016 for breaching notification requirements.
Sentence and Extended Licence
For his latest crimes in North East Lincolnshire, Brian Lane was:
- Sentenced to six years and three months in prison.
- Ordered to serve an extended licence period of six years following his release.
- Placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
- Handed an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
- Subjected to a restraining order.
During the hearing, Lane attempted to intimidate a woman in the public gallery. When questioned by Judge Thackray, Lane provided a “ridiculous” explanation that he was adjusting a dislocated shoulder, which the judge dismissed as a “pretence.”
Monitoring and Public Protection
Lane is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Humberside Police. His status as a “high-risk” serial predator remains under “critical” scrutiny to ensure public safety.
As a lifetime member of the Sex Offenders Register and subject to an indefinite SHPO, Lane must comply with strict notification requirements for the rest of his life. Humberside Police state that they will use every resource to monitor dangerous offenders who attempt to hide their identities. Any breach of his licence or registration conditions will result in his immediate return to Grimsby Crown Court.
