In 2018, the Offender Database reported that Brian Docherty, the Dumfries Paedophile Child Rapist, then 73, designated as a “high risk” sex offender, commenced his abuse of youngsters in the 1970s while entrusted with babysitting duties in Dumfries.

One of his victims informed the authorities that he would sexually assault her and then either purchase her a Mr Whippy ice cream or provide her with money for her piggy bank.

Brian Docherty’s initial victim was six years old when he commenced his abuse at a residence in Castle Douglas in September 1970. The maltreatment persisted for two years.

Brian Docherty provided childcare for his second victim from October 1980 to October 1983, during which she was between the ages of five and seven.

The youngster disclosed the actions perpetrated on her in 1998 during a discussion with family members.

She approached the police, but at that juncture, there was inadequate evidence to initiate prosecution against him.

He assaulted his third victim from February to August 1986 when she was six years old.

In 1986, the court was informed that Brian Docherty was referred to a psychologist and voluntarily participated in treatment for the sexual allegation, as the girl’s mother preferred to avoid police involvement.

Brian Docherty expressed satisfaction that the abuse was publicly acknowledged and reiterated his need for assistance at that time.

He expressed humiliation for himself and would have felt contempt if another had perpetrated the offence.

However, he swiftly resumed the exploitation of vulnerable young children, intentionally separating them from their families and friends to facilitate his abuse.

Brian Docherty exploited the fourth victim during the period when he was responsible for her care, from ages three to nine. The offences occurred from April 2010 to April 2018.

Beast Brian Docherty was sentenced to seven years and ten months in prison, followed by two years of stringent monitoring upon his release.

His name will remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
