The Offender Database reported that Brandon Smith, the Denton Rapist Sex Offender, who sexually assaulted and threatened to knife a lady he had surveilled for six months, had his sentence augmented subsequent to the Solicitor General’s intervention.
Brandon Smith (25) from Denton, Greater Manchester, had his sentence augmented by four and a half years following the referral of his case to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence program.
The court was informed that Brandon Smith did not know his victim; nonetheless, he had been observing her for six months and had discerned her commute to work.
On the morning of 5 July 2024, Brandon Smith seized the victim during her commute and threatened to stab her if she uttered a sound. He subsequently pulled her into some bushes and assaulted her sexually.
Subsequent to the incident, Brandon Smith menaced the victim’s mother with death should she disclose any information regarding his attack.
Brandon Smith consistently refuted his culpability during the trial, originally asserting that he had never encountered his victim. Subsequently, when forensic evidence indicated that he had been in contact with the woman, he asserted that she had given her consent.
Following a trial at Bolton Crown Court, he was convicted on all five charges on 8 January 2025.
The Solicitor General, Rt Hon Ellie Reeves MP, stated: Brandon Smith’s assault and rape of a woman in broad daylight, after observing her for months, was profoundly reprehensible.
This Government is dedicated to reducing violence against women and girls by fifty per cent, and as Solicitor General, I am concentrated on safeguarding women and girls.
I commend the court’s ruling to extend Brandon Smith’s sentence, ensuring a hazardous sexual predator remains off our streets.
On 30 April 2025, Brandon Smith was sentenced to 12 years and six months of jail, with a three-year licence extension, for rape, assault by penetration, and sexual assault at Bolton Crown Court. A significant restraining order was also enacted.
On 21 November 2025, Brandon Smith’s sentence was augmented to 17 years, accompanied by a three-year licence extension, following its referral to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence program.
