A Sheffield Paedophile sex offender, Ben Johnson, who attempted to rape a teenage girl, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after she courageously hit him and resisted his advances.

Ben Johnson donned a balaclava as he indecently exposed himself, sexually abused, and attempted to rape the girl, who ultimately escaped by striking him and fleeing.

On 27 June 2024, Ben Johnson, 38, of no fixed residence, assaulted the girl in Tongue Gutter woods, Sheffield.

The crime was reported to the authorities on the same day, and the victim provided officials with a useful description of her assailant, despite his wearing a balaclava, allowing detectives to refine their investigations.

We subsequently identified Ben Johnson, a registered sex offender residing a 15-minute walk from the crime scene, as a suspect and apprehended him the following day.

The victim successfully identified Ben Johnson as her assailant via a structured identification procedure.

Ben Johnson was interviewed on two occasions, during which he delivered a prepared statement refuting the allegations and refrained from commenting on any enquiries.

He was indicted for attempted rape of a minor under 16, two counts of sexual assault, and indecent exposure, and was convicted on all charges by a jury on 1 July 2025 after a trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Ben Johnson attended the same court for sentencing on Monday, 15 September.

Ben Johnson was sentenced to 20 years in prison and issued an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.
