Barry Warner transmitted repugnant sexual texts to a 13-year-old girl and subsequently accused her of fabricating the allegations when she reported him.
The 51-year-old initiated a conversation with the girl, but as the communications turned improper, she manipulated the interaction to ensure he incriminated himself.
Barry Warner, residing on Bedford Road in Birkdale, then experienced panic—initially alleging that the girl was fabricating her claims, then asserting it was all a jest, and imploring her to erase the texts.
The girl presented the notes to her mother, who then reported Barry Warner to the police.
Initially, Barry Warner attempted to refute all allegations to the officers, asserting it was “nonsense” and that he believed he was conversing with the girl’s mother.
However, his justifications quickly disintegrated when it became evident from the messages that he was fully aware of the girl’s age.
Barry Warner confessed to participating in sexual communication with a minor and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
