In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Barnaby Money, 46, of East Hill Road, Ryde, Isle of Wight, was sentenced to one year in prison at Portsmouth Crown Court. Money was convicted of a “serious” sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl at Cosham railway station.

The investigation, led by British Transport Police (BTP), revealed that the “vicious” attack took place on 25 February 2025. The victim was sitting on a bench on platform two waiting for a train when Money approached her. After asking questions about trains, which she attempted to ignore, he moved closer, asked her to perform a sexual act, and then “viciously” threatened to rape her.

Public Intervention and Arrest
The court reported that a brave member of the public witnessed the “vile” “behaviour” and immediately alerted the authorities. Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were the first to arrive at the station, where the witness pointed out Money, who was still sitting next to the terrified teenager.

Money was arrested at the scene and placed under arrest. Due to the “extensive” investigation and evidence gathered by BTP detectives, he was left with no choice but to plead guilty to the sexual assault.

Sentence and Restrictions
For his “abhorrent” actions in Portsmouth, Barnaby Money was:

  • Sentenced to one year in prison on Thursday, 15 January 2026.
  • Ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
  • Banned from working with children for life.

The judge emphasised that targeting a young girl in a public transport setting was a “serious” violation of public safety and trust.

Monitoring and Public Protection
Money is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the British Transport Police. His residency in Ryde, Isle of Wight, and his “behaviour” on the rail network remain under “serious” scrutiny.

As a registered sex offender, Money will be subject to strict notification requirements and monitoring by specialist officers upon his release. British Transport Police emphasise that they operate a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual harassment and assault on the railway. They encourage the public to use the 61016 text service or the Railway Guardian app to report any suspicious or predatory “behaviour” immediately.
