In 2023, Awet Solomon, the West Drayton Rapist, who sexually assaulted a lady in the City of London on New Year’s Day, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison.
Awet Solomon, 24, assaulted the woman as she got off a bus on Mansell Street, adjacent to the Tower of London, and proceeded towards Whitechapel High Street.
He forcibly pulled her into an alleyway, assaulted, strangled, and subsequently perpetrated a severe sexual attack on her.
After Awet Solomon, someone unknown to the victim, escaped, she notified the police, prompting an inquiry that commenced on January 1.
He was apprehended, indicted, and detained within 36 hours after the report.
Awet Solomon, residing on Bath Road in West Drayton, admitted guilt to charges of rape, strangulation, and real bodily harm, receiving his sentence at Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday.
Detective Superintendent Richard Waight of the City of London Police stated that specialised officers collaborated closely with the woman.
He expressed gratitude to the victim for demonstrating remarkable courage and fortitude in reporting such a reprehensible incident and for aiding this investigation.
