Arjun Rajan, the Colchester Sex Offender, has been convicted of sexually abusing a woman in Colchester, attributed to the efforts of detectives who located him within hours of the occurrence.
Arjun Rajan, residing on Affleck Road in Colchester, was seen on city centre CCTV at 12:30 AM on 24 July 2022, having driven alone and parked on High Street before proceeding to Head Street.
After 30 minutes, the 33-year-old saw the victim as she proceeded to hail a cab home. He persisted in observing and trailing her as she proceeded to the High Street before extending an offer for a lift.
Under the impression that he was a taxi driver, the woman entered the vehicle, and Arjun Rajan proceeded to drive towards her residence; nevertheless, he sexually attacked her in the car prior to their arrival.
The woman instructed him to halt the vehicle and proceeded to walk the rest of the way home, where she subsequently revealed the incident, prompting the police to be notified.
Our police promptly recognised Arjun Rajan and apprehended him at 7 PM on the same day. He was subsequently charged with sexual assault and made his initial appearance at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on 14 July 2023.
On Tuesday, October 7, a jury convicted him of sexual assault in his absence, and an arrest warrant has been issued. Arjun Rajan is scheduled for sentencing on 5 November at Chelmsford Crown Court.
