In January 2026, the Offender Database reported that Andrew Smith-Davies, 49, formerly of Chestnut Hill, Keswick, Cumbria, and now residing at Station Road, Nottingham, appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court, where he pleaded guilty to a series of severe child sex offences. The court heard that Smith-Davies was in possession of an “extremely concerning” and depraved manual containing instructions on how to groom and sexually abuse children.

The case against the paedophile was built after an investigation revealed he had made hundreds of indecent images of children in January 2023. Smith-Davies admitted to making 61 Category A images—the most serious legal classification depicting the rape or torture of children—along with 63 Category B images and 260 Category C images. Prosecution Pamela Fee informed the court that some images depicted vulnerable children as young as five and six years old. Additionally, he was charged with possessing a weapon for the discharge of a noxious liquid or gas or an electrical incapacitation device.

During the hearing, the prosecution emphasised that the possession of a “paedophile manual” provided clear evidence of predatory intent and advice on facilitating the sexual abuse of minors. Ms Fee stated that the gravity of the offences “far outweighed” the sentencing powers of the magistrates’ court. Consequently, the case was committed to Carlisle Crown Court for a formal sentencing hearing.

On January 5, 2026, Smith-Davies was granted conditional bail pending his appearance at Carlisle Crown Court on February 2, 2026. His bail conditions strictly prohibit him from residing at any address where a child under 18 is present and from having any unsupervised contact with minors. An application for a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) will be reviewed during his sentencing to ensure permanent, legally enforceable restrictions on his future conduct.

As a result of his guilty pleas to multiple child sex offences, Andrew Smith-Davies was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police within three days of his initial court appearance. He will be managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) in Nottinghamshire, where he currently resides. This involves ongoing supervision by the Nottinghamshire Police and the National Probation Service to monitor his movements and mitigate the high risk he poses to children.
