In 2026, the Offender Database reported that Alexander Breslin, then 22, of Shepherd’s Coate Drive, Morpeth, Northumberland, was sentenced to 33 months in prison at Newcastle Crown Court in January 2023. Breslin pleaded guilty to multiple offences, including meeting a child following sexual grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The investigation established that Breslin groomed a 14-year-old girl online over a three-month period in 2019. He sent the victim sexual messages and a video of himself performing a sex act. During a FaceTime call, he recorded the girl engaging in sexual activity and kept the indecent image on his device. The grooming culminated in Breslin arranging to meet the girl outside her school, where they sat on a bench and “hugged and kissed.”
Discovery and Impact
The court reported that the abuse was uncovered after the victim confessed the meeting to her cousins. Her mother later examined the girl’s phone and iPod while she was asleep, discovering the “sordid” messages and recordings. In a victim impact statement, the girl said the experience left her feeling “isolated from both her peers and her family” and turned her into a “very anxious person.”
The defence stated that Breslin suffered from social isolation, depression, and borderline personality disorder, and had initially sought “solace and support” from the teenager before the relationship turned sexual.
Sentence and Registration Requirements
For his crimes in Morpeth and the hearing in Newcastle, Alexander Breslin was:
- Sentenced to 33 months in prison.
- Placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
- Handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The judge emphasised that Breslin had used digital platforms to manipulate a child and had recorded her for his own sexual gratification. The SHPO places strict conditions on his internet usage and his contact with minors.
Monitoring and Public Protection
Breslin is managed under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) by Northumbria Police. His status and his residency in Morpeth remain under scrutiny to ensure public safety.
As a member of the Sex Offenders’ Register until 2033, Breslin must comply with notification requirements regarding his address and digital activities. Northumbria Police state that they will continue to proactively monitor offenders who target children online. Any breach of his SHPO or registration conditions will result in his immediate return to Newcastle Crown Court.
