Alex Patel-Wells, the Barnet Rapist, a former University of Sussex student, has been convicted in court for raping or sexually assaulting five women, four of whom were fellow students.
Alex Patel-Wells, 26, of Grove Road, Barnet, was found guilty at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, October 16.
Sussex Police initiated an investigation following a woman’s claim of being raped by Alex Patel-Wells at a residence in Brighton on 31 October 2021.
The victim received assistance from specialised cops while Alex Patel-Wells was apprehended on suspicion of rape shortly thereafter.
Subsequent investigations revealed four additional victims over various years, from 2018 to 2021.
A woman in her late teens, acquainted with Alex Patel-Wells, alleged being raped and sexually assaulted by him on several occasions in Brighton between 2018 and 2019.
A woman in her late teens was raped by Alex Patel-Wells at a property in London while in a vulnerable condition around the same period.
In 2020, two other women reported being raped; in May, Patel-Wells sexually assaulted a woman at a college property, and four months later, he raped another woman at his residence in Brighton.
Alex Patel-Wells was then charged with five charges of rape, two counts of sexual assault, and two counts of assault by penetration, and was remanded in custody.
The jury convicted Alex Patel-Wells of crimes against each victim, specifically four counts of rape, two charges of sexual assault, and one count of sexual assault by penetration.
He was acquitted of one charge of rape and one charge of assault by penetration.
Subsequent to Thursday’s verdicts, Alex Patel-Wells has been detained in jail and is scheduled for sentencing at Lewes Crown Court on 19 December.
