In 2023, Alan Nicholson, a High Harrington Paedophile, apprehended in a police operation while conspiring to abuse two children, had his prison sentence lengthened.
Alan Nicholson, then 53, from High Harrington, believed he was engaged in an online dialogue with a mother of two, but was actually conversing with an undercover investigator.
He was sentenced to three years in prison in December for attempting to orchestrate a child sex crime.
The Court of Appeal deemed the sentence excessively mild and increased it to five years and nine months.
Det Sgt James Bailey of Cumbria Constabulary expressed, “We will not condone individuals committing such crimes and will persist in our efforts to identify and prosecute those offenders.”
In September 2021, Alan Nicholson engaged in online discussions with a woman named Louise over grave acts of sexual abuse he planned to perpetrate against her fictitious daughters—a five-year-old and an infant of four months.
However, Louise was an undercover officer from the internet and digital crime unit of Cumbria Constabulary.
Alan Nicholson, who has been registered as a sex offender and issued a sexual harm prevention order for ten years, will now serve nearly double his first term.
Solicitor General Michael Tomlinson KC MP stated: “Alan Nicholson was under the impression that he was effectively orchestrating heinous acts against very young children.” Fortunately, the individual with whom he was conversing was an undercover police officer, whose meticulous and praiseworthy efforts resulted in his incarceration.
“An extended prison sentence for this reprehensible crime demonstrates that such conduct cannot and will not be accepted.”
